Dr Livia Carvalho is a biologist with research experience in universities in the UK, USA and Australia. With an MSc in Neuroscience and a PhD in Genetics from University College London, post-doctoral training at Harvard University and now based at the University of Western Australia in Perth, she has spent her career trying to understand how vision evolved, the consequences of blinding diseases and how we can cure them.
Her lifelong passion for the marine environment and the discovery of Western Australia’s unique Oceans after moving to Perth made her a co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of the Western Australian Ocean Foundation. Her role is to oversee scientific research content and collaborations with research partners into evaluating the health of Western Australia’s ocean.
